07/09/2009: "mother nature - a great leveller!"

two weeks ago, everything here at hoover towers was routine.
we were dealing with a case of blatant over charging by a catalogue firm to a pensioner friend of penny pinchers we were plodding on and reading up on finding a way to show the people of the fair UK exactly what supermarkets/superstores on the high street are up to, as regards prices... home work was plodding on and the greenhouse was the main focus of the garden, as the late planting spuds started to come through.

a heatwave was upon us, wimbledon had started, and we were having some fun over at sporting-calendar.co.uk even the strawberries were ripening and being scoffed in a daily bowl full.

after being informed that my little part time job would be ended, i received a phone call that old father dad had been taken into hospital with trightening chest pain, he was diagnosed with angina but controlled with drugs, the sprog was then facing a disciplinary hearing for his job, after using the internet at work.
the following week saw dad resting at home with the occasional trip out, an the sprog was informed the official complaint that was made about him, was first from his shift leaders, then it was from his boss, then it wasnt from any of them and hed have his chance to defend himself at the disciplinary hearing later in the week.
a new problem had arose, in that the neighbours gas supply was subject to occasional gas leaks, our pipes had been done when hoover towers were built, so we were ok.

then at the end of last week.... a triple blow!

first the sprog discovered that no one had filed an official complaint, and despite destroying all the evidence of so called "internet abuse" where he works, he was dismissed, by the very person he put in a greivance against back in february.
this person simply refused to accept any of the printed explanations, and despite evidence proving he was not to blame and the accusations were false, he was out of work.
next we had dad, being rushed back into his local hospital, hes then transferred to a cardiac unit over at blackpool victoria hospital, in preperation for surgery as they couldnt stabilise his condition.
and finally we had a simple gas meter move (done for free in return for digging a "really small pit") which turned into a plot that could have buried 3 of us in with a huge digger that tore up our lawn as it went about looking for oil!
this simple task led to our gas meter being moved, and then swiftly cut off..... leaving us without hot water or heating.

then when we least expected it, dad got a serious virus which was tested for C Diff, and could have put back his operation for 3 weeks and of course made sure that if he wasnt ill enough, he was now even worse!

so in between losing my job, the sprog losing his job, visiting blackpool everyday (which is normally a good thing because the local people of blackpool rock!) and working extra hours as well as fighting to sort out the gas supply... we are upto a phone call this morning, to say that dad had a bad night and now his bypass op will be a triple bypass and instead of the booked slot, hes been rushed straight into theatre in what could be a 7 hour operation.

he was very very lucky the surgeons have said, as normally people with his condition wouldnt know anything about it until they had a massive heart attack.... just two weeks ago he was on holiday humping suitcases around and out walking up hills, luckily hes always been very active, but his heart was working overtime because of an artery collapse.

so today 2 out of the three people living at hoover towers are looking for work, baby hoover is due in 9 weeks time with lots of work still to do on the house and dad is currently in theatre.
amazing how the best laid plans.... an all that stuff.
