This post could also go into our "bad business" section!
The following happened to a family member of mine (its happening more often these days):
* Family member takes his car in for a service * Picks car up - pays the bill of £95 * He is informed on collection that the brake discs are rusty, the oil hasnt been changed (as the "mechanic" cannot get at the oil filter!) and a tyre needs changing.
What? A mechanic that cannot do an oil change on a car, "can't get at an oil filter?" So exactly what has been done? an air filter change, screenwash topped up, bulbs checked, etc, FOR £95?
Its is essential, when having a service, have the garage put in writing what parts have been changed and what work has been done. Otherwise how can you question it?
Good mechanics are hard to find, get to know yours, and question what has been done and what hasn't been done, etc. The price may be a bit more than a local back street garage, but if they are often busy and you have to wait a couple of days to book your car in, so be it, it shows that other people trust them and they are doing reliable work!
REMEMBER: Your safety is paramount as you will be driving the car! When you have found a decent garage, then stick with them, they'll save you pounds in the long run.
