The landline phone in our house, rings regularly at either dinner time or tea time, with an automated voice on the other end of the phone.
It proclaims that "we could have your debts written off" or "because of government legislation we could wipe off your debts" All of which, is complete fabrication and a cold call sales technique!
They are just trying to get you to pay for them to have a look at your credit agreements, which costs you hundreds of pounds out of your own (already over stretched) pocket!
I decided today, to listen to the entire message. If I pressed 9, the calls would stop - they didn't If I pressed 2, they would put me through to their customer service advisor for a free call - it's not free If I pressed 2, they would take just two minutes to help me - it didn't even last two minutes before they put the phone down.
I went through to an advisor, Ian he was called, and asked for the company name, "The free debt helpline" he tells me. Can I have your head office address please?
Ian put the phone down on me!
Despite having cold calling protection offered by BT who operate my line, they still sell on my number to companies like this. This company operate in the UK, so are not exempt from the scheme offered by BT, I still get the cold calls. This company are operating illegally, but the official bodies in place to protect the consumer, continue to do absolutely NOTHING about it.
Two options are available: OPTION 1: Inform your telephone company that you are receiving nuisance calls from a witheld number (this way they don't charge you for a new number) - they will change your number for you. OPTION 2: Simply hang up on them and don't even bother with them.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES - should you give them any information about you whatsoever! Ignore them they are not to be trusted!
